Green Jobs for Americans.com has been created to be the most useful source of green jobs and green careers on the Internet. President Obama and Vice President Biden have a vision and a plan to create jobs that allow Americans to earn a good income while respecting the environment. Our goal is to make it easy for employers and employees to find each other as these green jobs and green careers become part of our lives.

Defining Green Jobs - Our View

One of the challenges in defining "green jobs" is that the concept is relatively new. Almost every company today is trying to be seen as green and sometimes the job descriptions are light on "green" characteristics.

There are many organizations trying to define green jobs, but often reflect the political filter of these organizations. City, state and federal politicians generally use broad descriptions of green jobs to enhance their success. We are not influenced by these numbers in defining green jobs.

For example, a recent newspaper article mentioned an organization employing a receptionist who had "green" responsibilities because she ensured paper and printer cartridges are being recycled. That is admirable, but a receptionist position does not qualify as a green job on Green Jobs for Americans .com

At Green Jobs for Americans .com we believe that green jobs or green careers must have an impact on the life cycle of carbon, reduce hazardous air emissions such as CO2, lessen water use, create renewable, sustainable energy sources and help build a green economy.

We believe that the push to build a green economy will create millions of new green jobs by any measurement over the next few years.

Jobs may be considered "green collar" jobs (formerly thought of as "blue collar" jobs), along with positions relating to the development of a green economy, such as consultants, architects, engineers, auditors, production managers and executives.
